Physical Description

Favia corals are usually found in massive colonies, they can be flat or in the shape of a dome. They can be found in different colors, even in the same species. Different colonies of the same species also have different morphologies according to where they are found in the reefs. Shallow water colonies tend to have the polyps more compacted and close together and the ones from deeper water have polyps more spaced from each other (Veron 2000). The colony used has brown chalice with green oral disc and polyps that were roughly from 8 mm to 12 mm. It usually has its polyps retracts during the day, they are only visible when they are feeding.
